HEIGHTS HEAT PAL SPRING TRAVEL SOFTBALL NOW OPEN REGISTRATION

The Berkeley Heights PAL will sponsor travel SOFTBALL teams during the upcoming 2021 Spring season. This is a competitive program where teams from Berkeley Heights will play teams from other surrounding towns in various leagues. Regular season games will be half home/half away and may include weekend doubleheaders depending on age group. Practices will start in late March and the season will run through playoffs the weekend before Memorial Day.  Teams may also participate in a tournament if scheduling permits.  Final Schedules will be distributed once registration is complete, teams are established and the league is assigned.

Registration for 2021 is OPEN with a closing date of February 15th, 2021. The cost of the program is $165 and covers league fees, umpires, team equipment and supplies, etc. Uniforms and individual player equipment are purchased separately as needed.

The age divisions are below.  The 8U level is coach-pitch and allows new players to learn the game.  Players start pitching to each other starting with the 10U level and higher.

10U - 10 or younger as of 12/31/20
12U - 12 or younger as of 12/31/20

2021 In-Town Recreation Baseball

This Recreation(REC) baseball program is intended for all Berkeley Heights and Mountainside kids in Kindergarten through 6th grade at all levels of play. Nregistered players will be left off a REC roster. The spring season will begin April 10 and end by the 2ndweek in June. Games are typically played in the early evenings during the week, except for tee ball which is normally played on Fri evenings and Sat mornings.

BIG NEWS - starting in 2021, The Berkeley Heights PAL has made the decision to affiliate its baseball program with the Cal Ripken Babe Ruth League.  We believe this new affiliation will bring consistency across our entire baseball program in rules, policy, safety and organization, as well as affording our kids opportunities in competitive summer baseball for those that areinterested.

REC LEAGUE OVERVIEW

Tee Ball – requires your child to be in Kindergarten at the time of registration. No exceptions can be made due to insurance requirementsSeason consists of at least 12 games/practices, 2 days per week. Non-competitive, no playoffs.

Minors – 1st and 2nd graders learning to play baseball.  Coach pitch with the option for a hybrid of kid and coach pitch. Distances are 40-46 feet pitching mound and 60 foot bases.  Season consists of at least 12 games/practices, 2 days per midweek. Less competitive, all teams make playoffs.

Majors/60 – 3rd and 4th graders continuing their baseball evolution with full kid pitch. Distances are 46 feet pitchingmound and 60 foot bases.  Season consists of at least 12 games/practices, 2 days per midweek. More competitive, all teams make playoffs.

Majors/70 – 5th and 6th graders move up to play on a larger field with 50 foot pitching distance and 70 foot bases. More competitive, all teams make playoffs. Please note that due to a lower number of players at this age group, Berkeley Heights will add teams from New Providence and possibly Mountainside to form a league with enough teams.  This is not a merger, but a coop of teams with games scheduled in potentially all threetowns.

*IMPORTANT* – participation in REC baseball continues to be required for inclusion in TRAVEL baseball.

Registration cost for the 2021 spring REC baseball league is $135 per player, which covers: league fees, umpires, team equipment and a game shirt and hat.

Registration will close on March 15th, 2021. Unfortunately, registration requests after March 15th will not be honored, as teams must be set and uniforms ordered, so please register as soon as possible to ensure the process goes smoothly!

PAL 2021 Wrestling (1st to 8th)

Governor Murphy has signed an order permitting winter indoor sports (including wrestling) with some restrictions.

See order here.

To that end we are planning on having BHPAL wrestling for the 2021 season. We will follow all national, state and local guidelines.

Wrestling is one of the fastest growing sports in our area. This program is a terrific option for kids who want to try something new, serious wrestlers looking to take it to the next level and fall/spring athletes who are looking for a way to be active and get in shape during the winter. Wrestling teaches leadership and discipline: 11 U.S. Presidents were former wrestlers. Our program is a feeder for the Columbia and Governor Livingston teams.

The program is open to all  Berkeley Heights and Mountainside wrestlers in grades 1 to 8. Due to the practice size limitations we will be working under we are NOT able to accept kindergarten wrestlers this year.

The fee for the season is $175. This includes all practices, most competitions, a sweatshirt, tee-shirt and shorts as well as use of a singlet for competitions. (The singlet must be returned at the end of the season.)

If the season winds up being cancelled or shortened you will receive a prorated refund.

For more information/questions contact Bill Faxon BFaxon@bhpal.org

The BHPAL is committed to not letting finances preclude kids from participating in sports. If you would like your child to participate but are unable to pay the fee please reach out to Bill (above). All inquires 100% confidential.

2020-21 Winter Travel Basketball

BH PAL TRAVEL BASKETBALL

With Governor Murphy's recent Executive Order permitting winter indoor basketball, with restrictions, we are opening registration as if we will play this season. Please understand we do not know if or when there will be a travel basketball season.

Registration will be open ended until more information becomes available.  Same includes but is not limited to league start dates, gym access (which we currently don't have), potential tryouts, and COVID protocols.

If we move forward with tryouts, we would put in place special COVID health checks similar to other town sports and schools to ensure the safety of everyone involved. To provide a more organized and safe environment, we need more parent volunteers than ever before. We hope you consider getting involved.

The sign-up cost will be $185, however, we will not charge any money until we know if there will be a season.

In the meantime, if you have any questions, feel free to contact Tom Solfaro tsolfaro@bhpal.org at or Mitch Stein at heightsbasketball@gmail.com
