2021 Heights Heat Summer Travel Softball Registration

HEIGHTS HEAT SUMMER TRAVEL SOFTBALL REGISTRATION NOW OPEN

What is the Heights Heat?
The Heat is the travel softball program sponsored by the Berkeley Heights PAL.  This is a competitive program where teams from Berkeley Heights will play teams from other surrounding towns in various leagues.

Who can play?
The Heat program is open girls ages 7 to 14 with varying levels of ability.  You will find that at each of our age levels there are some girls who have multiple years of experience, while many other players are new to the game and are just learning.

What is the time commitment?
Players should be available for at least one practice per week and 2-3 games per week.  The summer season has a different schedule than the spring and fall.  Regular season games are scheduled 2-3 days a week and are typically held in the evening on WEEKNIGHTS (there can be an occasional weekend game).  Practice will start after Memorial Day and games start the week of June 10th and will through the end of July. Teams may also participate in tournaments on weekends.

How are teams formed?
Team rosters are based on age requirements from USA Softball.  This season we will be holding tryouts to evaluate players and assist us with slotting players on the proper teams within their respective age groups.

When are the tryouts?
Tryouts will be held the week of May 24th.  The exact schedule is still being determined but we hope to complete them in the evenings Monday to Wednesday that week.  All tryouts will be facilitated by independent coaches.  No Heights Heat coach will be permitted to attend or help at their own child's tryout.  Tryouts will be conducted at Upper Columbia field, next to Columbia Middle School.

What are the age ranges for the teams?

8U - 8 or younger as of 12/31/20
The 8U division is a competitive instructional league with modified rules that allow players to learn the game while developing their skills.  Coaches pitch to batters from their own team and Coaches are also in the field with their teams on defense to teach players.

10U - 10 or younger as of 12/31/20
The 10U division is the first-time players face pitching from opposing players.  This division still has some rules modifications to help keep the game fun while players continue to learn the rules and strategies.  Previous experience is helpful but not required!

12U - 12 or younger as of 12/31/20
At the 12U level, the rules modifications are removed and teams play under high school rules.  Previous experience is preferred.

14U 14 or younger as of 12/31/20
At the 14U, teams play under high school rules.  Previous experience is required at this level

How much does it cost to play?
The cost of the program is $200 but there is an early payment discount of $25 if you register by May 17th.  The fee covers league/tournament fees, umpires, team equipment and supplies, etc. Uniforms and individual player equipment are purchased separately as needed.

How do I register and what is the deadline?
You can register HERE.  Registration is open until May 23rd.  There is a $25 early payment discount if registered and paid by May 17th.

I have questions – who can I talk to?
