This Recreation(REC) baseball program is intended for all Berkeley Heights and Mountainside kids in Kindergarten through 6th grade at all levels of play. No registered players will be left off a REC roster. The spring season will begin April 10 and end by the 2ndweek in June. Games are typically played in the early evenings during the week, except for tee ball which is normally played on Fri evenings and Sat mornings.
BIG NEWS - starting in 2021, The Berkeley Heights PAL has made the decision to affiliate its baseball program with the Cal Ripken Babe Ruth League. We believe this new affiliation will bring consistency across our entire baseball program in rules, policy, safety and organization, as well as affording our kids opportunities in competitive summer baseball for those that areinterested.
REC LEAGUE OVERVIEW
Tee Ball – requires your child to be in Kindergarten at the time of registration. No exceptions can be made due to insurance requirements. Season consists of at least 12 games/practices, 2 days per week. Non-competitive, no playoffs.
Minors – 1st and 2nd graders learning to play baseball. Coach pitch with the option for a hybrid of kid and coach pitch. Distances are 40-46 feet pitching mound and 60 foot bases. Season consists of at least 12 games/practices, 2 days per midweek. Less competitive, all teams make playoffs.
Majors/60 – 3rd and 4th graders continuing their baseball evolution with full kid pitch. Distances are 46 feet pitchingmound and 60 foot bases. Season consists of at least 12 games/practices, 2 days per midweek. More competitive, all teams make playoffs.
Majors/70 – 5th and 6th graders move up to play on a larger field with 50 foot pitching distance and 70 foot bases. More competitive, all teams make playoffs. Please note that due to a lower number of players at this age group, Berkeley Heights will add teams from New Providence and possibly Mountainside to form a league with enough teams. This is not a merger, but a coop of teams with games scheduled in potentially all threetowns.
*IMPORTANT* – participation in REC baseball continues to be required for inclusion in TRAVEL baseball.
Registration cost for the 2021 spring REC baseball league is $135 per player, which covers: league fees, umpires, team equipment and a game shirt and hat.
Registration will close on March 15th, 2021. Unfortunately, registration requests after March 15th will not be honored, as teams must be set and uniforms ordered, so please register as soon as possible to ensure the process goes smoothly!
