Please read the entire description of the sport or event you are interested in as it will describe the age/grade restrictions and the necessary equipment needed to attend each program.

2020-21 Winter Travel Basketball

With Governor Murphy's recent Executive Order permitting winter indoor basketball, with restrictions, we are opening registration as if we will play this season. Please understand we do not know if or when there will be a travel basketball season.

Registration will be open ended until more information becomes available.  Same includes but is not limited to league start dates, gym access (which we currently don't have), potential tryouts, and COVID protocols.

If we move forward with tryouts, we would put in place special COVID health checks similar to other town sports and schools to ensure the safety of everyone involved. To provide a more organized and safe environment, we need more parent volunteers than ever before. We hope you consider getting involved.

The sign-up cost will be $185, however, we will not charge any money until we know if there will be a season.

In the meantime, if you have any questions, feel free to contact Tom Solfaro at or Mitch Stein at

2020-21 Wrestling

Governor Murphy has signed an order permitting winter indoor sports (including wrestling) with some restrictions.

See order here.

To that end we are planning on having BHPAL wrestling for the 2020-21 season. We will follow all national, state and local guidelines.

Wrestling is one of the fastest growing sports in our area. This program is a terrific option for kids who want to try something new, serious wrestlers looking to take it to the next level and fall/spring athletes who are looking for a way to be active and get in shape during the winter. Wrestling teaches leadership and discipline: 11 U.S. Presidents were former wrestlers. Our program is a feeder for the Columbia and Governor Livingston teams.

The program is open to all  Berkeley Heights and Mountainside wrestlers in grades 1 to 8. Due to the practice size limitations we will be working under we are NOT able to accept kindergarten wrestlers this year.

The season will begin in mid-November and will run through mid February. There will be two practices a week, wrestlers will be separated by age, size and ability. As of now the competition schedule is unclear, but we will be practicing and ready for competitons as they arise.

The fee for the season is $175. This includes all practices, most competitions, a sweatshirt, tee-shirt and shorts as well as use of a singlet for competitions. (The singlet must be returned at the end of the season.)

If the season winds up being cancelled or shortened you will receive a prorated refund.

For more information/questions contact Bill Faxon

The BHPAL is committed to not letting finances preclude kids from participating in sports. If you would like your child to participate but are unable to pay the fee please reach out to Bill (above). All inquires 100% confidential.

2021 Spring Travel Baseball

Please register for spring 2021 Travel Baseball so we can get numbers for tryouts.  This will be a no fee registration as kids can tryout without paying at this point.

A few reminders/notes:

  • Berkeley Heights is playing separate from Mountainside in 2021
  • Spring travel baseball is played by grade
  • All kids in 1st - 8th grade are eligible.
  • There will be two tryout dates available. These will likely be the following 2 dates: Sunday Nov 1 and Sunday Nov 8.  The dates and times will be finalized and notification will be sent out closer to the tryout date.
  • Players will be evaluated by Chris Roof's GL baseball staff so independent evaluators (no parents / PAL coaches) will determine the teams based on level of player development
  • We are doing tryouts outside to enable best evaluation of the player and to form teams early so winter workouts can be done as a team (subject to covid-19 restrictions)
  • In town recreation baseball (including tee ball) registration will be open in late winter.

If you have any questions, please contact BH PAL Baseball Commissioner, Dave Dietzel at
