Berkeley Heights PAL programs currently open for registration

Please read the entire description of the sport or event you are interested in as it will describe the age/grade restrictions and the necessary equipment needed to attend each program.


 

PAL Wrestling 2022-23

Registration is now open for PAL Wrestling for the 2022-23 season. Practices begin in mid November and run through February. Competitions are optional, the team competes at various levels from beginner to advanced. Wrestlers who chose to compete are placed at a level approrpriate for their age, skill and experience.

 

The program is a feeder for GL and is only open to Berkeley Heights and Moutainside residents without prior approval. The majority of the GL team came through the PAL program and there are currently PAL/GL alum wrestling in college at TCNJ, Stevens and Washington & Lee among other universities. The program is open to kids in Kindergarten to 8th grade for the 2022-23 school year. 

 

Wrestling has been show to improve fitness, conditioning and self esteem. It is a great winter sport to help baseball and lacrosse players get in shape for their spring and summer seasons.

2023 Spring Travel Baseball

2023 BH Spring Travel Baseball Registration

 

What you need to know:

  • Registration for the 2023 Spring Travel Baseball season is now OPEN!  
  • Tryouts to occur on Saturday, October 22.  Rain date to be held October 29th.

 

Registration:

  • Registration closes on Monday, October 17th.  Please ensure your child is registered and paid on time so we can plan accordingly.
  • If we are unable to place your child on a team, your full registration fee will be refunded.

 

2023 Season:

  • For the 2023 season we will be playing by grade for the Spring, Summer and Fall seasons.
  • Our Ripken Tournament (also known as District) team will still play by age and there will be a separate email with details as we get into 2023

 

Tryouts:

  • Tryouts are conducted by independent evaluators and will consist of batting, infield, outfield, and arm strength.  Rosters and coaches will be announced for Spring teams following the tryouts.
  • The end goal for tryouts is to ensure all kids who want to play travel baseball have a team to play on.  Teams will be formed based on numbers, where appropriate.
  • Kids will tryout for Spring teams based on their grade per the schedule below.  Please plan on arriving 30 minutes prior to the start time.
    • 9:00am to 10:30am:
      • 1st & 2nd Grade
    • 10:30am to 12:00pm:
      • 3rd & 4th Grade
    • 12:00pm to 1:30pm:
      • 5th thru 7th Grade

 

Commitment:

  • Spring travel baseball games are played through USABL.  Games typically occur on the weekend, with 1-2 practices at the coach’s discretion during the week.
  • USABL is competitive baseball; however, divisions are formed based upon skill level of each team to ensure a positive experience
  • As we continue to grow the game within town, all travel players must participate in our PAL In-Town baseball program as well.  This ensures we have a vibrant program that is competitive at all levels and allows kids to play baseball with their classmates.

 

Looking ahead:

  • Tryouts for Summer travel baseball will likely be in May, also based on grade and with similar tryout criteria as the fall
  • For most teams, summer travel baseball is played through the New Providence Green League.  While summer baseball is typically perceived as more competitive, the NPGL allows for BH teams to play similar level competition against teams in the surrounding towns/areas.
  • Summer travel baseball is more competitive than Spring as it relates to the Ripken Tournament Trail.  This is separate from NPGL and more information will be shared in the Spring prior to tryouts.  As mentioned above, similar to last year, Ripken Tournament (District) teams will be formed by age.
