Berkeley Heights PAL programs currently open for registration

Please read the entire description of the sport or event you are interested in as it will describe the age/grade restrictions and the necessary equipment needed to attend each program.


 

2023 In-Town Baseball MAJORS & BABE RUTH (5th-9th grade)

The PAL is opening registration for in-town recreational baseball for the spring of 2022.  In town baseball is fully inclusive of boys and girls of all ability levels.  No registrant is cut or needs to try out, all kids play. 

 

This registration is for children in 5th Grade thru 9th Grade.  Baseball programs are offered by grade with info as follows:

 

  • MAJORS:  5th and 6th grade  (50' mound & 70' bases).  Player development continues with additional, more complicated baseball rules applied in these years.  Scores and standings are maintained with playoffs and a champion.  There is also an all-star game offered in May.
Fee of $175 includes an 8-10 game schedule with team shirt, hat and pants.  There are two umpires per game with at least 1 playoff game guaranteed.
 
 
  • BABE RUTH:  7th and 8th graders, or 9th graders 15 years of age as of April 1, 2022  (full size diamond - 60'6" mound & 90' bases).  All the rules of baseball are enforced as the kids transition to the full size diamond.  Scores and standings are maintained with playoffs and a champion rewarded.

Fee of $175 includes an 8-10 game schedule with team shirt and hat.  There are two umpires per game, playoffs and an all-star game offered.

This registration is for children in 3rd Grade thru 4th Grade.  This is the Minors program.  Details are as follows:

 

  • MINORS:  3rd and 4th grade kid pitch  (46' mound & 60' bases).  Fundamental growth continues with basic rules added to simulate real baseball game situations.  Competition is introduced with scoring maintained and playoffs at the end with a champion rewarded.  There is also a league all-star game offered in May.
Fee of $160 includes an 8-10 game schedule with team shirt and hat.  There is one umpire per game, playoffs and an all-star game offered.

2023 In-Town Baseball T-BALL & ROOKIE (K-2nd grade)

The PAL is opening registration for in-town recreational baseball for the spring of 2023.  In Town baseball is fully inclusive of boys and girls of all ability levels.  No registrant is cut or needs to try out, all kids play. 

 

This registration is for children in Kindergarten thru 2nd Grade.  Baseball programs are offered by grade, and include the following:

 

  • T-BALL:  for children in Kindergarten and kids age 5 as of April 1, 2023.  This is an introduction to baseball where participants will learn how to hold and swing a bat as well as field and throw a baseball.  There are no umpires, no score is kept, no playoffs.
Fee of $145 includes an 8-10 game/practice schedule with team shirt and hat.
 
 
  • ROOKIE:  1st and 2nd grade coach pitch  (40' mound & 60' bases).  A continuation of instructional baseball.  Again, no umpires and no scoring or playoffs.
Fee of $145 includes an 8-10 game schedule with team shirt and hat.

2023 Spring Boys Lacrosse

Registration is open for the Spring 2023 Berkeley Heights PAL Boys Lacrosse.

Registration: Registration for 2023 is OPEN with a closing date of January 29th, 2023. The cost of the program is $225. That registration fee includes all field, referee, tournament, and practice pinnie costs for the season. The only additional costs will be game uniforms (if a new player or returning player that needs a new size) and additional head coach/trainer costs (if needed).

USA Lacrosse Registration: There is a league requirement that all PAL Boys Lacrosse participants are a       member of USA Lacrosse.  Please make sure that your player is registered and that their membership is up to date.  You will be required to include the player’s USA Lacrosse # as part of the PAL Boys Lacrosse registration.  The link for the US Lacrosse website is below.

Participants: The program is open to all Berkeley Heights and Mountainside students in grades 2nd - 8th (we expect to have one team per grade (except a joint  5th/6th grade team). Please see below for some specific information for Grades 2/3, 5/6, 7 and 8.

Commitment: Practice (2-3 per week) starts in late February, with games running from late March through late May.  Practices and games will generally be scheduled on Tuesday/Thursday/Friday/Saturday pending on field and referee availability.

Games: Each team will play approximately 12 games, plus 1-2 tournaments.

Equipment Requirements: All players will need full lacrosse equipment: lacrosse stick, helmet, shoulder pads, gloves, elbow pads, cup, and mouth guard. Continuing from Spring 2022, ALL FIELD PLAYERS are required to wear shoulder pads that meet NOCSAE Standard ND2000. Grades 2/3:  We anticipate having a team per grade but if participants are lower, we will combine the two grades. If we are able to form two teams/grades, we would like to have a head coach and 2 assistant coaches for each team/grade.  If you are interested in volunteering your time, please contact me at amorris@bhpal.orgIf we cannot identify enough coaches, then trainers may need to be used to further support these teams at an incremental cost.  

Grades 5 and 6: Due to anticipated lower numbers of 5th grade participants, we will be offering a joint 5th and 6th Grade team . This team will play a 6th Grade schedule, similar to past years when grades do not have enough participants to fill a team.

Grade 7: These grades are still in need of coaches. We need a head coach and 1 assistant coach. If you are interested in volunteering your time, please contact me at amorris@bhpal.orgIf we cannot identify enough coaches, then trainers may need to be used to further support these teams at an incremental cost.  

Grade 8: Due to anticipated lower numbers of 8th grade participants, we will be combining our participants with New Providence. This will be a joint team between Berkeley Heights, Mountainside and New Providence. The team will be under the New Providence banner since they will have a great number of participants. The team will be coached by both Berkeley Heights and New Providence parents. Practices and games will be split between Snyder Field and Lieder Field in New Providence. 2023 Boys Volleyball

BHPAL Middle School Boys Volleyball - Spring 2023

Registration is now open for 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grade (2022-23 school year) boys for the Spring 2023 volleyball season. The season begins on March 27 and ends on May 24. The focus of this volleyball program is to teach basic volleyball skills (serving, passing, setting and hitting technique) and game rules. Our primary goal is for the boys to have fun and to love playing volleyball! The players will be placed on in-town teams with practices and games on Monday and Wednesday evenings. You will receive your team assignment at the end of March.

The cost for participation is $150, includes a uniform t-shirt and referees. No registration will be accepted after March 17th. 

As with all BHPAL programs, our success depends on parent volunteers to coach. Please consider volunteering, especially if you have volleyball experience!! We will have a coaches clinic and meeting the week of March 20th. It is a short season and lots of fun!

Please note, this program is available to Berkeley Heights, Mountainside and New Providence residents only.

2023 Spring Lax Boys Clinic

2023 Spring Boys Lacrosse Clinic (PRE-K, K, & 1ST Grade)

The Berkeley Heights PAL is offering a six-week lacrosse clinic this Spring for boys in Pre-K, Kindergarten, 1st Grade.  This clinic is designed for all participants regardless of their experience or abilities.  The boys will learn the basics of lacrosse and strengthen their skills through fun drills and games.

Location: Governor Livingston High School Turf Field

Dates: 3/19, 3/26, 4/16, 4/23, 4/30, & 5/7 (Sunday Mornings)

Time: 9AM – 10:15AM

Equipment Requirements: Lacrosse Stick (We prefer no plastic sticks)

In Grades: Pre-K to 1 for 2022-23 School year

PAL Wrestling 2022-23

Registration is now open for PAL Wrestling for the 2022-23 season. Practices begin in mid November and run through February. Competitions are optional, the team competes at various levels from beginner to advanced. Wrestlers who chose to compete are placed at a level approrpriate for their age, skill and experience.

 

The program is a feeder for GL and is only open to Berkeley Heights and Moutainside residents without prior approval. The majority of the GL team came through the PAL program and there are currently PAL/GL alum wrestling in college at TCNJ, Stevens and Washington & Lee among other universities. The program is open to kids in Kindergarten to 8th grade for the 2022-23 school year. 

 

Wrestling has been show to improve fitness, conditioning and self esteem. It is a great winter sport to help baseball and lacrosse players get in shape for their spring and summer seasons.
