Berkeley Heights PAL programs currently open for registration

Please read the entire description of the sport or event you are interested in as it will describe the age/grade restrictions and the necessary equipment needed to attend each program.


 

PAL Wrestling 2021-22

Berkeley Heights PAL Wrestling 2021-22 season

Registration is now open for PAL Wrestling for the 2021-22 season. Practices begin in mid November and run through February. Competitions are optional, the team competes at various levels from beginner to advanced. Wrestlers who chose to compete are placed at a level approrpriate for their age, skill and experience.

 

The program is a feeder for GL and is only open to Berkeley Heights and Moutainside residents without prior approval. The majority of the GL team came through the PAL program and there are currently PAL/GL alum wrestling in college at TCNJ, Stevens and Washington & Lee among other universities. The program is open to kids in 1st to 8th grade for the 2021-22 school year. 

 

Wrestling has been show to improve fitness, conditioning and self esteem. It is a great winter sport to help baseball and lacrosse players get in shape for their spring and summer seasons.

2022 Spring Travel Baseball

Please register for Spring 2022 Travel Baseball.  Payment is required for Try-outs.

A few reminders/notes:

  • Spring travel baseball is played by grade
  • All kids in 1st - 8th grade are eligible.
  • Try-outs will be held at Sansone #1 and #2 on Sunday, October 17.  Times as follows:
    • Grades 1-2: 9-11am (Arrive at 8:30 for warm-ups)
    • Grades 3-4: 11am-1pm (Arrive at 10:30)
    • Grades 5 and up: 1-3pm (Arrive at 12:30)
  • Players will be evaluated by GL baseball staff so independent evaluators (no parents / PAL coaches) will determine the teams based on level of player development
  • We will make every effort to place every player on a team, however unlike In-town baseball placement on a travel team is not quarenteed.  In the event that we are not able to place a player, you will recieve a 100% refund.
  • In-town recreation baseball (including tee ball) registration will be open in winter.

2021 FALL Girls Field Hockey Clinic (2nd - 4th Grade)

The Junior Highlanders Field Hockey clinics, open to Berkeley Heights and Mountainside kids in grades 2-4, will be part of an instructional field hockey program, with a strong focus on skill development, all-player participation and fun.  All ability levels are welcome, as well as kids who may participate in other Fall sports and dance.  

The program will run from early September until early November, and will feature weekly 1 hour practices that include drills, games and fun for all.  If you have an experienced 4th grader interested in playing for the 5/6 travel team, please contact phouse@bhpal.org prior to registration.

* While loaner sticks will be available, please check the box that you'll need to borrow a stick when registering.  They are on a first come, first served basis.

 

Weather Cancellations: Practices/games will be cancelled when thunder, lightening, and/or heavy rain is present. Make-up time will be addressed by adding practices or games, and no guarantees on meeting full session time. Cancellations due to inclement weather will be emailed to all participants.

2021 Girls In-town Rec Basketball

Registration is now open for 2021-2022 Berkeley Heights girls’ in-town PAL recreation basketball.

The program is open to Berkeley Heights girls grades 3 through 5 and all ability levels are eligible to play. Every child that participates on a 4th and 5th grade Berkeley Heights travel basketball team is REQUIRED to register and play on an in-town team. You will need to register under both programs.  

There will be two leagues:

·         3rd Grade Girls

·         4th and 5th Grade Girls

Objective

The objective of the in-town recreational program is to introduce the game of basketball in an organized manner which will foster an environment of instruction and teamwork and promote safety and sportsmanship.

There are no tryouts to participate in the in-town PAL recreation program. All girls who register will be placed on a team. The goal is to place girls playing on a travel team equally amongst the number of teams in the respective grade level recreation program. Non-travel team girls will be assigned a team based on input from the Berkeley Heights girls’ commissioner and volunteer coaches with the goal to make the teams as fair and balanced as possible. At times, it may be necessary to redistribute girls to ensure the teams and games are as competitive as possible.

Commitment

Teams will play for one hour typically on Saturday morning, consisting of a short practice and a 40-minute game. The season will start in early December and run through the end of February or early March.

Registration

Registration will remain open through October  31stThe participation fee for the program is $90.00. All players will receive a team jersey for participating. Please indicate your daughter's shirt size when registering.

Volunteer Opportunities

We need volunteer coaches and this program cannot succeed without your help. If you are interested in coaching, please be sure to indicate that while registering your daughter online.

 

Please take note: All girls grades 4th and 5th participating on a travel team are required to play in the In-town recreation league and attend 75 percent of the games or you cannot take a spot on a travel team. There will be no exceptions to this rule.

2021 Fall Boys Lacrosse Clinic

The Berkeley Heights PAL Lacrosse is offering a six week lacrosse clinic this fall for boys in 2nd Grade – 8th Grade.  This clinic is designed for all participants regardless of their experience or abilities. The boys will learn the fundamentals of lacrosse and strengthen their skills through drills and games.

Location: Passaic River Park

Dates: 9/22, 9/29, 10/6, 10/13, 10/20, 10/29 (Wednesday Nights)

Time: Grades 4-8: 4:00PM – 5:30PM; Grades 2-3: 5:30PM– 6:30PM

Equipment Requirements: Grades 2-8: Lacrosse Stick and Full Lacrosse Equipment (helmet, shoulder pads, gloves, elbow pads, mouth-piece, and cup)

Cost: $100.00
