Berkeley Heights PAL programs currently open for registration

Please read the entire description of the sport or event you are interested in as it will describe the age/grade restrictions and the necessary equipment needed to attend each program.

 

2023 Boys Basketball Open Gym

Many of you have inquired if the PAL would be offering open gym basketball night like we did last year. The PAL will be offering open gym nights for boys from the 3rd through 8th grade with a slight twist.

 
The PAL is fortunate this spring to partner with Coach Chris Loeffler, GL Varsity Boys Basketball Coach, and his respective assistant coaches to facilitate the sessions.
 
All boys are encouraged to participate irrespective of skill level. Consistent with last year, the focus of the program will be on developing and building upon fundamentals such as dribbling, passing, shooting and defense through skills and drills. This is a great opportunity for the boys to hone in on their skills under the instruction of our own varsity coaches. 
 

 

Boys Open Gym Night - TUESDAY

When: Every TUESDAY night starting on April 11 until May 23 for the first 7 sessions in the CMS blue gym. The last 3 sessions will be held on Wednesday, June 7 (CMS blue gym), Monday, June 12 (CMS gold gym) and Tuesday, June 13 (CMS blue gym)

  • Session 1: Boys grades 3rd through 5th: 6:15 - 7:30 PM
  • Session 2: Boys grades 6th through 8th: 7:35 - 8:50 PM

 

The registration fee is $200 for 10 sessions. Each of the sessions will be capped at the first 25 boys per session for a total of 50 boys across the two sessions.

2023 Boys Volleyball

BHPAL Middle School Boys Volleyball - Spring 2023

Registration is now open for 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grade (2022-23 school year) boys for the Spring 2023 volleyball season. The season begins on March 27 and ends on May 24. The focus of this volleyball program is to teach basic volleyball skills (serving, passing, setting and hitting technique) and game rules. Our primary goal is for the boys to have fun and to love playing volleyball! The players will be placed on in-town teams with practices and games on Monday and Wednesday evenings. You will receive your team assignment at the end of March.

The cost for participation is $150, includes a uniform t-shirt and referees. No registration will be accepted after March 17th. 

As with all BHPAL programs, our success depends on parent volunteers to coach. Please consider volunteering, especially if you have volleyball experience!! We will have a coaches clinic and meeting the week of March 20th. It is a short season and lots of fun!

Please note, this program is available to Berkeley Heights, Mountainside and New Providence residents only.

Spring/Summer Wrestling (HS)

PAL Sponsored/Run Spring and Summer Wrestling Program. Program will consist of supervised "Open Mats" including guest instructor led technique. Cost includes open mats, optional dual meets in July and one optional tourney. Open to students attending GL in 2023-24 only.

2023 Grapplers Wrestling Camp

Governor Livingston wrestling head coach Rick Ortega will be running his Grapplers Wrestling Camp again this summer!

The camp is open to kids entering 2nd to 9th grade for the 2023-24 school year. 

Dates: July 10th-13th 2022

Time: 9am to 12pm

Location: Columbia Middle School - Blue Gym

Cost: $210 before 6/1, $220 after 6/1

Coach Ortega and his staff will provide high quality instruction to all participants. A low instructor to athlete ratio is maintained to ensure engagement of all participants. The camp is appropriate for wrestlers of any skill level. Beginners welcome and encouraged, there will also be technique applicable to advanced grapplers.

Registered participants will receive communication prior to the camp on what to bring.

2023 Highlander Volleyball Camp

HIGHLANDERS VOLLEYBALL CAMP

WHEN: Monday July 24 - Thursday July 27 | 9am-12pm

WHERE: Columbia Middle School Blue Gymnasium

COST: $200 

      **No experience required! Camp is open to non-residents.**

 

MEET THE COACHES:

  • Coach Steve Hess- Head Coach for the Governor Livingston Volleyball Program.  Lead our Varsity team to a State Sectional Title this past season! He also teaches Math at GL.
  • Coach Ally Dabroski- Assistant Coach for the Governor Livingston Volleyball & Softball Programs.  Division 1 collegiate softball experience at Stony Brook University. Teaches Health & Physical Education at GL.
  • Coach Kelly McAdam- Assistant Coach for the Governor Livingston Volleyball Program.  Division III collegiate volleyball experience at Centenary College.  Paraprofessional at GL and a Berkeley Heights resident! 

 

WHAT TO EXPECT: 

Hands on all day long! We explain and demonstrate for form and safety, but you'll be involved the whole session. You will be able to fine-tune skills that may have been "underused" in the offseason.  Those new to the sport will benefit from the review of fundamentals and get an idea of what it's like to be involved in a positive team environment.  Plenty of time for fun games, challenges, and court time.  The spirit and enthusiasm in this session is one to beat!

 

WEAR: Athletic clothes (shorts, tank/tee, sports bra), athletic sneakers, knee pads

BRING: Plenty of water, healthy snacks

2023 Highlander Softball Camp

HIGHLANDER SOFTBALL CAMP 2023

WHERE: Governor Livingston High School softball fields

AGES: Players entering 1st - 9th Grade as of September 2023

COST: $210 (Additional sibling $190)

**CANCELLATION POLICY: For a full refund, all requests for cancellations must be made by email at least 2 weeks prior to the start of camp. Any cancellation made after, will be refunded, minus a $75 administration fee.**

WHAT TO BRING: Players should bring their own glove, helmet, and bat, along with a snack and plenty of water

OUR MISSION: To assist every player in developing their softball ability through various drills that will include defensive and individual position play, batting mechanics, baserunning, and competitive game activities and play.

2023 Reaching Heights Field Hockey Summer camp

Governor Livingston field hockey head coach Jackie Wells will be running her second annual Reaching Heights Field Hockey Camp this summer!

The camp is open to kids entering 2nd to 9th grade for the 2023-24 school year. 

Dates: July 24th-27th 2023 (rain date: Friday 7/28)

Time: 8:30am to 11:30am

Location: Snyder Turf field

Cost: $200

Reaching Heights Field Hockey Camp provides a safe, fun, and engaging experience for youth field hockey players to grow in skill and knowledge of the sport. Emphasis is placed on skill development, self-esteem, & team building, on and off of the field.

2023 Spring Field Hockey Clinic (1st - 8th Grade)

The Berkeley Heights PAL is excited to announce its Spring Field Hockey Clinic, open to Berkeley Heights and Mountainside children in grades 1 through 8.  
 
This clinic, run by the Governor Livingston High School varsity field hockey coaches, will get kids familiar with the sport through fun drills and games.   
 
* While loaner sticks will be available, please check the box that you'll need to borrow a stick when registering.
